Casemiro Sent Off for Horror Tackle as Red Devils Drop Points against Bottom of the League

  • last year
Casemiro could not hold back the tears after being sent off for a challenge on midfielder Carlos Alcaraz during Manchester United's match against Southampton at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian appeared to lunge for a loose ball with his studs up, catching the opposition man on the front of his shin.

Referee Anthony Taylor reached into his pocket and awarded him a yellow card, but was advised to review the tackle on the pitch side monitor, and subsequently changed his decision as he gave Casemiro his marching orders.

The red card means the midfielder will be banned for four matches, meaning he will miss league games against Newcastle, Everton, and Brentford, plus next week's FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham.

After a fantastic start to life at Old Trafford, earning the plaudits of many commentators and pundits, this is a significant setback for the midfielder who had never received a straight red card before joining Manchester United.

He now has as many red cards in the Premier League (2) as he did during his entire time playing in La Liga.

United played for almost an hour with 10 men, and could not force a winner against the Saints as both sides had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

The Red Devils remain third but are now 16 points behind leaders Arsenal, and 11 points adrift of neighbors Manchester City.
