  • last year
Powell’s comments before the Senate Banking Committee foreshadowing a possible new hike of 0.5 percent later this month didn't sit well with investors, who were pricing in a 0.25 percent increase. Following Powell’s remarks, Bank of America ($BAC@US) fell by 1.6 percent, JPMorgan Chase ($JPM@US) fell by 1 percent, and Wells Fargo ($WFC@US) fell by 1.8 percent. ETFs providing exposure to banking followed the same path. Invesco KBW was down 1 percent, and SPDR S&P lost 1 percent. The energy sector also took a hit, with Fidelity MSCI down 1.4 percent Exxon Mobil ($XOM@US) down 1.5 percent, and Chevron ($CVX@US) down 1.1 percent.
