Norway Police Detains Activist Greta Thunberg
  • last year
In a recent demonstration in Oslo, Norwegian police briefly detained environmental activist Greta Thunberg alongside other campaigners who were demanding the removal of wind turbines from reindeer pastures.

The demonstration, which saw indigenous campaigners and other activists blocking access to several government buildings, was met with police intervention.

Thunberg and her fellow demonstrators were blocking one of the doors to the Norwegian finance ministry when they were lifted up by police officers and carried away from the area while other protesters chanted slogans. The demonstration was organized in response to Norway's supreme court ruling in 2021 that two wind farms built at Fosen in central Norway violated Sami rights under international conventions, yet the turbines remain in operation more than 16 months later.
