Journalist Isabel Oakeshott has defended her decision to leak hundreds of thousands of WhatsApp messages sent between government ministers and officials during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: "I'm not here as a journalist to protect politicians' blushes or their reputations … it would be totally wrong of me to sit on this extraordinary treasure trove of information that lifts the lid on what was really going on."
