The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)' mandate for election observation ended in Nigeria after polling day on Saturday and its "Preventive Diplomacy" component kicks in.
This means that the ECOWAS mission headed by the former President of Sierra Leone, HE Ernest Bai Koroma, along with his assistant, Ghana's former High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb Baba Kamara, will henceforth focus its efforts on promoting dialogue, encourage adherence to procedures relating to the official declaration of elections results. Where so required, the Mission will mediate, negotiate any disagreements that may emerge.
