International Women’s Day: Why do we wear purple ribbons?

March 8th marks international women’s day - a whole day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women worldwide, and even the women closest to your heart. On this day, people are welcomed to don purple ribbons or wear purple, green or white clothes to celebrate the cause. But why these colours and what do they mean?
