The spat between Lukaku and Barella took place during Inter Milan's 0-0 draw with Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

The argument started in the 40th minute of the game when Lukaku told Barella to stop flapping his arms around in frustration.

Lukaku shouted the following at Barella: 'Don't do that, enough with these arms! Do not do that! It's not good, it's insulting, now stop!'.

Lukaku's comments didn't go down well with Barella - who fired back at the 29-year-old forward on loan from Chelsea.

Those watching on from the sidelines were stunned to see Lukaku and Barella argue on the pitch as they are known for being friends.

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi said he was disappointed to see the spat but insisted it was a heat of the moment exchange.

Speaking after the game, Inzaghi said: 'These things happen on the pitch, they shouldn't happen and I don't like to see them.'

He went on to dismiss any claims of a long-term rift, stating: 'They were sat together during the break and are great friends. Obviously, these are incidents I don't want to see.'

While Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij explained how the pair made up immediately after the game.

'I hadn't noticed it, I found out during the break,' De Vrij told DAZN after the game. 'They immediately cleared the air, now we must look forward.'
