Amelia Talks About Her Baby, Christopher - Grey's Anatomy

  • last year
Amelia Shepherd's first baby was named Christopher. He was referred to as Amelia's "Unicorn Baby" because when she was 12, she loved unicorns because they are magical and can do good things. Amelia became pregnant with Christopher while in the fifth season of Grey's Anatomy spin-off Private Practice. In 2012’s “And Then There Was One,” Amelia learns her baby is anencephalic (he had no brain). Despite this, Amelia still wanted to see her son and referred to him as the "most beautiful baby in the world". Unfortunately, Christopher died shortly after birth.
Amelia talks about Christopher in a conversation with a pair of young parents facing a tough decision on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. She speaks from experience about how labor changes your mind and heart forever, and how losing him was one of the reasons she and Owen broke up. Talking about Christopher has been an “incredibly healing” experience for Amelia, and has helped her heal from her fear and trauma.
