  • last year
A village named Kongthong in Meghalaya where to call someone in family or friend circle, villagers use special tune.

There is one special tune against one particular villager. Talking to ANI a local youth of Kongthong village Phiwstar Khongsit said that there is one tune against one villager and this tune is different with other fellow villagers.

He said, “If any villager dies, then the tune of that person will also die along with him or her. We have own tunes and the mother composed these tunes. We have used the tunes in two ways - long tune and short tune. We have used the short tune in our village or home. My tune was composed by my mother. This system is going on in our village from generation after generation. We don't know, when it was started. But, all villagers are very happy with this.”

Another youth Jipson Sohkhlet, said that, the villagers are calling each villager by tune or song.

He said, “We have a population of around 700 people in our village, so we have around 700 different tunes. These tunes have used only for communication, not calling his or her original names. We have used the full song or tune to communicate other villagers in jungle or field. This system is going on traditionally from generation to generation. We are continuing with this practices.”

“Now the people of some other nearby villages of Kongthong are also adopting this practice. We are very happy with this practice,” he added.
