Sen. Fetterman checks himself into hospital for clinical depression

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression. After being evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress, it was recommended that Fetterman receive inpatient care at Walter Reed.
Fetterman has experienced depression "off and on" throughout his life, but it only became more severe in recent weeks. This follows a stroke he suffered in May 2022 and his stay at George Washington University Hospital last week after feeling unwell during a daylong Senate Democratic retreat.
Fetterman's wife Gisele said she is proud of him for asking for help and getting the care he needs. Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), who has disclosed her own experience with depression, commended Fetterman for seeking treatment in a statement on Twitter. This shows that Fetterman is willing to take action to address his mental health issues and seek help when needed.
