Canberra author Colin Dennett has written "An Illustrated History of Ampol", a book that is crammed with photos, stories and yarns about the brand that disappeared in the 1990s.

It traces how the company came to be and how Ampol, together with other independent oil companies, played important roles in the Australian oil industry.

But about 30 years on, Ampol the brand is making a comeback, and this book helps celebrate it.
