Charlie Rankin (Stephen Dorff, Blade) is out of prison, but not out of trouble. Indebted to the man who saved his life behind bars (Willem Dafoe, Spider-Man), Charlie must now carry out a murder to settle the score. Als Charlie Rankin nach vier Jahren aus dem Gefängnis entlassen wird, ändert sich erst mal nichts für ihn. Denn hinter Gittern hat ihm sein Mentor „The Buddha das Leben gerettet, wofür er im Gegenzug eine „kleine Gefälligkeit“ verlangt. Charlie soll einen Mord begehen, was gründlich schief geht, und ihn von nun an zum Gejagten macht. Als dann noch die geheimnisvolle Florence in sein Leben tritt, scheint alles aus der Bahn zu geraten. Gefangen in seinen eigenen Zweifeln bleiben Charlie nur 24 Stunden, um seinen Job zu erledigen und einen Ausweg zu finden.
