Finch – Galleons Of Passion Rock Prog Rock 1977
  • last year
Determeyer's place in the composition was taken by Ad Wammes , an old friend of Joop van Niemwegen from a long time ago in the group Ex, which specialized in performing cover versions of famous compositions of British bands Jethro Tull, Ten Years After and Yes. It took Wams just three weeks to learn Finch's repertoire and be ready for the tour, which began immediately. And soon the "finches" returned to their usual tour schedule - 8 concerts a month. At the same time, preparations for the recording of a new album began. The musicians decided that the new disc must be similar to the work of Genesis. To do this, Finch hired British producer Sandy Roberton (Sandy Roberton - worked with Hard Meat, and together with him started preparing the material. However, not everyone agreed with this decision. The group's founder, Beer Klaase, was indignant at such an unceremonious deviation from the group's originally chosen course. True, he did not leave immediately, but at the beginning of 1977, waiting for the new drummer Hans Bosboom to join the group . That same year, the London-recorded album Galleons of Passion was released on Rockbudgh Records . As the band members wanted, it turned out to be completely saturated with the sound and spirit of Genesis (but without vocals), which was not very liked by both music critics and listeners. Oor Magazineresponded about the album in very negative tones, and the disc itself hardly sold 11,000 copies. Attendance at Finch concerts has also declined, as has the number of them. However, this did not prevent the group from going on a tour of Germany along with the cult figure of the Dutch progressive - Jan Akkerman , who spoke very flatteringly about the performance skills of Joop van Niemwegen, knowing the performing level of Ackerman himself and his character, this review was worth a lot .
