Finding horses from Franches-Montagnes at the bio Ferme Under the Neuvevie, Doubs Park
  • last year
We stopped at a farm (www.sous-la-neuvevie.ch) close to Saignelégier as we passed the parc du Doubs to see a unique breed of horse and hear about their agricultural methods. The Franches-Montagnes horse breed, which is unique in that it is the only Swiss horse breed with local origins, was introduced to us by Thierry, who co-manages the farm with his friend Brigitte. They are friendly, adaptable horses that respond well to riding and harnessing. The Rhaetian gray cow, a breed that is now endangered, was one of the numerous animals on their farm that Thierry discussed with us.. The Ferme sur la Neuvevie is dedicated to bio farming and operating as circularly as possible in addition to maintaining rare animal breeds. Thierry took us on a tour of the farm before taking us onto a neighbouring field to see their horses up close. These creatures were quite friendly and prodded us for stroking and petting. They are not only good-natured by nature, but also as a result of the affection and attention they have received from their owners. This film was made by the fair traveler ambassador Katie while on the 2019 Swiss Fair Crawl, an electric bike trip made possible by our partner Swiss Parks (www.parks.swiss).
