A cattle baron takes in an orphaned boy and raises him, causing his own son to resent the boy. As they get older the resentment festers into hatred, and eventually the real son frames his stepbrother for fathering an illegitimate child that is actually his, seeing it as an opportunity to get his half-brother out of the way so he can have his father's empire all to himself.

Waisenkind Owen Daybright wurde von Rancher Arch Strobie adoptiert und an der Seite seines Sohnes Lee aufgezogen. Obwohl Owen immer wieder Taugenichts Lee aus der Bredouille holt, zeigt sich der wenig dankbar und wird stattdessen von Eifersucht und Angst um das Erbe gepackt. Als die von Lee geschwängerte Lili ihr Baby zur Welt bringt, sieht der bereits verheiratete Lee die Möglichkeit gekommen, Owen aus dem Weg zu schaffen. Er ist den aufgebrachten Brüdern Lilis dabei behilflich, Owen - den sie fälschlich für den Vater halten - in eine Falle zu locken.
