Named as the pioneer of the 'middle cinema' of India, Hrishikesh Mukherjee was an Indian film director known for a number of films, including Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, Anupama, Anand, Abhimaan, Guddi, Gol Maal, Aashirwad and Bawarch, to name a few.
"We couldn't afford a rickshaw, we used to walk, we used to wave at them but one day, I found Bimal Da, I waved at him, he stopped the car and asked me to get inside the car, and I found that he was picking up everybody in the street wether an ordinary person,technician and they told me this is Bimal Roy and he gives lifts to everybody whom he find walking on the street, very handsome man who need no appreciation though he was at the height of his glory " he recalls.
(Bimal Roy was an Indian film director. He is particularly noted for his realistic and socialistic films like Do Bigha Zamin, Parineeta, Biraj Bahu, Madhumati, Sujata, and Bandini, making him an important director of Hindi cinema. )source : Wikipedia
Hrishikesh also remained the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and of the National Film Development Corporation. He died in the year 2006. He was 83.
