It's true that there are questions being asked about the deceased's condition and the grave. The departed person's soul will be returned to him; the Messenger S has narrated saheeh accounts to that effect. The deceased's life in the grave differs from his life here on earth; it is a unique form of existence in al-barzakh (the time between his death and the Day of Resurrection) that is different from his life here on earth, where he need food and drink, among other things. The two angels will challenge him, "Who is your Lord?" since he is living a unique kind of life in which he can comprehend inquiries and answers. What religion are you?

Narrated Abu Huraira: I said: O Allah's Apostle! Who will be the luckiest person, who will gain your intercession on the Day of Resurrection? Allah's Apostle said: O Abu Huraira! I have thought that none will ask me about it before you as I know your longing for the (learning of) Hadiths. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who said sincerely from the bottom of his heart None has the right to be worshipped but Allah [ Sahi Bukhari Hadith No 99]
