The Defence Industry Minister says the purchase of the American made HIMARS long range missile system is the greatest expansion of the army's strike capability in living memory. The government has finalised a deal to buy 20 of the truck mounted high mobility artillery rocket systems by 2026. It's the same system Ukraine has praised for its devastating effectiveness against Russian forces. And in a separate deal the governments also acquired Norwegian made anti-ship missiles for the navy. The overall cost is estimated at around two billion dollars.
