Huge spike in number of children accidentally eating cannabis edibles

Kids got their hands on a lot of cannabis edibles during the pandemic, according to a new study. There was a 1,375% spike in reports to poison centers involving children under six from 2017 to 2021.There were 207 reported cases of children eating cannabis edibles in 2017. Compared to 2,209 in 2020 and 3,054 in 2021, according to a new study published in Pediatrics. Of all reported cases, 22.7% of patients were admitted to the hospital. Researchers believe the increase is likely tied to children spending more time at home during the pandemic. 97% of cases involved edibles found at home, and 53% involved children ages 2 and 3.
