In a surprise move, reports have emerged that Dubai has decided to scrap the 30% tax on the sale of alcohols. It has also reportedly announced that the liquor licenses will now be free to obtain. This sudden announcement was made yesterday by alcohol distributor ‘Maritime and Mercantile International’… which is part of the wider Emirates Group. African & Eastern, the second alcohol retailer believed to be at least partially held by the state or affiliated firms, also announced the end of the municipality tax and license fees. At this juncture, it is not clear whether this would cause a price drop at alcohol-serving establishments… or whether it only would affect those buying it from retailers. There is also no clarity whether this would be a permanent move..or is just a move aimed to boost tourism for just few months. In this video, we briefly take a look at the liquor policies of Dubai…and what prompted a relaxation in the policies. But before that, don’t forget to like, share and subscribe to Oneindia.
