33 Years in Prison for Myanmar's Ousted Leader, with a Life Sentence Likely
Since being imprisoned during a coup in early 2021, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been charged with a number of crimes. Her trials concluded on Friday, bringing an end to several months of court processes.
Nearly two years after being initially jailed by the military in a coup, Myanmar's deposed civilian leader was found guilty of corruption on Friday and sentenced to seven years in prison.
The Nobel laureate Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, 77, had already started her 26-year prison term for the more than a dozen counts she has been charged with since being imprisoned.
