1989 Maybe Just Maybe

1989 Maybe Just Maybe by Mark Fielding Darden

This is a killer song. All instruments are right on target and the lyrics are very engaging. Kind of like a Celtic march into the enemy's camp...

My old, good friend Milton Gore is playing bass and then the lead guitar at the end. I'm playing everything else.
What a great groove this song has! I think this may have been the last song I ever recorded on my Teac 4 tract reel to reel. My memory tells me I was in Cary, living in my very first home. I remember where the drums were in that room. The drums on this song came out extremely well. Deep, pounding. And then Milton played an outstanding bass and even better lead part at the end.

I wrote this for all the brilliant, decent, honest, people I have met who are just a little too smart for God, for his son. That was almost me.

One of the best assets a person can have is a sharp, questioning mind. But that intellect can also over-analyze and cause one to miss the simple truths of life: We are all sinners and Jesus can save us. God isn’t going to let us into his home if we are not clean, and there’s only one way to get clean... and it ain’t by being a good person on earth.
