The political crisis in the South American nation of Peru is deepening with each passing day and is showing no signs of dying down. Peru’s new government has declared a 30-day national state of emergency to quell violent demonstrations which have shaken the country.. following the ousting and arrest of President Pedro Castillo a week ago. Since then, people have come to the streets demanding the holding of general elections in the country. Protests at many places have turned violent. At least 8 have died and several have been grievously injured so far.
