Co-op Funeralcare Coffin Makers enter 3rd month of strike action.

Coffin makers for major funeral care company in Scotland hold further strike over pay.
Around 50 coffin makers at Co-operative Funeral Care’s factory in Bogmoor Place, Glasgow in Scotland began a seven-day stoppage Monday.

The Unite union members held previous walkouts beginning at the end of October. They voted by a 96 percent majority for the stoppage, rejecting a pay offer less than half the current inflation rate. An improved pay offer from the Co-op last week was also rejected. The site supplies coffins to the Co-op funeral business throughout the UK.

The factory is one of the only manufacturing sites in the UK.

A week-long strike by Glasgow coffin manufacturers has started in response to a protracted salary dispute.

Co-op Funeralcare in Govan employs about 50 craft workers, and they will begin to leave on Monday after the company's new offer was turned down.

The company proposed a 4% raise for this year and a 5% raise for 2023.

Despite the fact that inflation was expected to rise much further, Unite the union declined the offer.

The only coffin manufacturing in Scotland and the entire United Kingdom is located in Glasgow.

The December walkout marked the third consecutive month of strike activity, and Unite has warned that additional action may be planned.

In the UK, Co-op employs close to 60,000 people.
