According to a representative of the Indonesian government, Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 leaders' summit in Bali the following week.
Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, will be the official spokeswoman for the president, according to Jodi Mahardi, the coordinating minister for maritime and investment affairs.
Putin's absence was confirmed by the Russian embassy in Indonesia.
"I can confirm that Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, will lead the team at the G20. President Putin might participate electronically in the program, which is still being developed, according to Yulia Tomskaya, the embassy's chief of protocol.
