TGA pushes to restrict sale of paracetamol

Chronic pain advocates have criticised Australia's drug regulator over its plans to further restrict the sale of paracetamol.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration will discuss its intentions to limit purchases to two packs per person at supermarkets when it meets next week.

An independent report into the rising rates of intentional overdoses has sparked the move.

There were nearly 7,000 paracetamol overdoses recorded in New South Wales and Victoria last year.
