The term introvert was popularized by Carl Jung, who defined it as possessing an "attitude-type characterised by orientation in life through subjective psychic contents". Extraverts, on the other hand, are considered to be “constantly oriented towards the external object”. Jung described introversion as a function inhabiting the "subjective psychic sphere." Compared to extraverts, introverts can generally be more easily overwhelmed and fatigued when focusing outwardly.
