  • last year
An official from the Securities and Exchange Commission is warning of increased fraud as market selloff and recession anxiety drives companies to cook their books. Acting chief accountant Paul Munter said that auditors need to be more proactive about addressing red flags and identifying fraud. Munter stated that it's “particularly troubling” when auditors focus on what they aren’t required to do and he sent a “very strong reminder to audit firms” about their obligations.
