As Britain’s turbulent economy shakes up its government, its whisky business is growing. The volume of whisky exports increased by 10.5 percent during the 12-month period ending in July. Demand in the U.S. and China and a weak British sterling are bolstering the 20 new distilleries that have opened in Scotland in the past six years. In an economy afflicted with high inflation, low consumer spending, and unstable business investment, its scotch whisky industry remains buoyant.
