The Las Vegas Raiders traded defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins to the Dallas Cowboys and their seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in return for Dallas’s sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Hankins was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft to the New York Giants. He played football in college for Ohio State where he received All-American honors.

Hankins played four years with the New York Giants before he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2017. He played for the Colts for one year before being traded to the Raiders where he played for three years and the beginning of the 2022 season before coming to Dallas in Week 8.

“We just feel he's an excellent fit for us. We can't hoster our run defense enough. We feel that is everyone's approach to us when it comes to our defense.” Head Coach Mike McCarthy said in Wednesday morning's press conference.

The Cowboys have one of, if not the best defense in the league. Their pass rush and secondary make it extremely difficult for opposing teams to throw the ball down field. The team's game plan against Dallas is looking more and more to rely on the run game and our run defense could use some work.

“He’s an anchor.” McCarthy said.

McCarthy believes that acquiring Hankins will help the Cowboys run defense with his size and ability to tackle.
