Some People May Be
'Mosquito Magnets,' , New Study Finds.
The study was conducted by a team of neurobiologists
and published in the journal 'Cell' on Oct. 18.
It found that the smell of some people can
attract mosquitos more than the smell of others.
According to the study.
people who have "high levels" of certain chemicals
present on the skin are akin to “mosquito magnets.” .
If you have high levels of this stuff on your skin, you’re going to be the one at the picnic getting all the bites, Leslie Vosshall, Neurobiologist and Study Author, via AP.
The study also found that mosquitos seem to remain focused on a particular smell.
They would basically swarm to the most attractive subjects. It became very obvious right away, Maria Elena De Obaldia, Study Author, via AP.
The study found that out of a group of 64 people.
mosquitos were 100 times more likely to
bite the person with the favorite scent than the person with the least favorite scent.
The research even followed the same people over the course of several years and found that the results remained consistent.
Mosquito magnets seem to remain mosquito magnets, Matt DeGennaro, Florida International University, via AP.
The research confirmed that even mosquitos with edited genes affecting the sense of smell would find the same scent chemicals attractive.
