In a new interview with People magazine, Matthew Perry revealed that he almost died in 2018 after his colon burst due to drug use. Perry spent "two weeks in a coma and five months in the hospital and had to use a colostomy bag for nine months”. The Friends actor admitted that doctors told his family that he only had a “2% chance to live”. When he was first admitted to the hospital Perry said he was put on an ECMO machine, calling it a “hail Mary” that “no one survives”.The actor has been vocal about his struggles with addiction over the years. His addiction has resulted in 14 surgeries so far on his stomach. During the interview, Perry said that this is “a lot of reminders to stay sober. All I have to do is look down”. Perry's therapist once told him that the next time he wants to take Oxycontin he should think about having a colostomy bag for the rest of his life. The actor admitted that the advice opened a "little window" that he "crawled through" and now he no longer wants to take Oxycontin.
