Cowboys Injury Update: QB Dak Prescott Will Take Majority of 1st-Team Reps, MedicallyCleared

Quarterback Dak Precott is determined to return for Week 7 against the Detroit Lions (1-4) on Sunday for the Cowboys (4-2). Prescott did some light throwing during last week’s practice and also did some throwing on Sunday night during warmups for the Eagles game. According to WR1 here in Dallas, CeeDee Lamb said he looks good and healthy.

Jerry Jones told 105.3thefan on Tuesday morning, “He’s determined to (play Sunday). From my perspective, I think he’s gonna get there. We feel like physically (he’s ready to return). He’s going to be given every opportunity this week to go play. He looks ready to go.”

As of Wednesday morning nothing has been finalized or announced for the Cowboy’s as to who will be the starting QB on Sunday even though it’s leaning towards Prescott.

Leighton Vander Esch told us on Wednesday before practice, “It’s awesome having Dak (Prescott) back. I mean I don’t really know the situation but I know he has been preparing his butt off to come back as soon as he can. But I mean whatever happens happens.”

Vander Esch told us that he was grateful for what QB Cooper Rush could accomplish in the first five games of the season for Dallas.

“I’m extremely grateful for what Cooper (Rush) has been able to do for us for the last five games. That’s been huge and I think he has really done above and beyond what he can do for us and I think everyone should be extremely proud and happy of what he has helped this team accomplish so far.” Vander Esch said.

“I’m looking forward to having Dak back and I know all the other guys are too.” Vander Esch said.

It’s been five weeks since Prescott has had surgery on his right thumb. He injured his throwing hand in Week 1 against the Bucs and had surgery days later. Since then he has been rehabbing and it has been going exceptionally well. Originally, Prescott was supposed to return in week 9 against the Packers but according to the doctor he is on track to possibly return on Sunday for week 7 against the Lions, two weeks earlier than expected.
