New Sensors Hope to Warn Taiwan of Next Big Quake - TaiwanPlus News

Earthquake-prone Taiwan is increasing efforts to monitor one of its most dangerous faults. Researchers at National Chung Cheng University in southern Chiayi County hope that newly installed seismic sensors on the Meishan Fault can help predict when a major quake might hit. Movement at this fault caused deadly earthquakes in 1792 and 1906, inferring that it is likely to cause seismic events every 110 years. This means a major quake could occur any day.
