Government reverses decision to recognise West Jerusalem
  • 2 years ago
To other news now the Federal Government has reversed a controversial decision by the Morrison government recognising west Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In late 2018 the then government moved to recognise the city as Israel’s capital - following a similar move by the trump administration. Labor says it was a cynical attempt to attract Jewish voters during the by-election for the seat of Wentworth in Sydney’s east. Scott Morrison argued the city held Israel’s parliament and many of its institutions, but Labor has long vowed to reverse that move and have the Australian embassy remain in Tel Aviv.
