CNN reports that the Nakia Creek Fire started in Clark County near the Oregon border on Oct. 9.
Unseasonably hot temperatures and strong winds caused the fire to expand to 2,000 acres on Oct. 16.
By the end of the day on Oct. 16, the fire was only 5% contained, and close to 3,000 homes were told to evacuate.
Thousands more were instructed to
be prepared to do the same. .
According to Clark County officials, fire season doesn't usually last this long in Washington State.
