October 2017, witnessed a giant wave of empowerment which helped millions of stories about sexual harassment, lurking in all fields especially the Hollywood film industry, come up to the surface, causing the silent epidemic dating back to decades, to be silent... no more.

What started as a hashtag #MeToo has now become a full-fledged movement, giving rise to many subsidiary movements like Times Up Movement and Never Again which provide aid to the sexual abuse victims from all walks of life.

The precipitous fall of disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein has unexpectedly pulled back the curtain on years of sexual harassment and abuse. Many Hollywood biggies like Ben Affleck, Ryan Seacrest, James Franco, Dustin Hoffman, John Travolta, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, Tom Sizemore, Kevin Spacey, Jeffrey Tambor, George Takei, James Toback, Ed Westwick, Nick Carter, Richard Dreyfuss, Charlie Sheen, Sylvester Stallone, Steven Seagal and others toppled to shame because of their past indiscretions.

The #metoo hashtag ignited like wildfire on social media and over the past few months, we’ve seen an increased awareness about the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment — especially in the workplace — thanks to the #MeToo hashtag going viral following public sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein by many Hollywood actors like Alyssa Milano
Debra Messing, Patricia Arquette, Rosario Dawson, Evan Rachel Would, Felicia Day, Angelina Jolie, Viola Davis, Bjork, Lady Gaga, Barry Crimmins, Salma Hayek, Cara Delivingne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brit Marling, Lupita Nyongo, Ashley Judd, Lena Headly, Kate Beckinsale, Rose McGowan and many many more.

At the Golden Globes 2018, powerful women like Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Wiliams, Emma Stone and many more showed their solidarity with victims of sexual harassment dressing in black. At the Grammy Awards, musicians including Lady Gaga, Camilla Cabello, Zayn Malik, Cardi B, Khalid, Nick Jonas, Sam Smith wore white clothing or white roses.

And the 90th Academy Awards aka Oscars 2018 saw some groundbreaking moments in the history of Oscars. With Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue, he tackled the issue of Hollywood harassment head on and managed to wring some humor from it. While Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant’s (who was earlier accused of sexual assault) win sparked some controversy, Frances McDormand’s acceptance speech brought with itself, a wave of applauds, especially when she quipped the words – Inclusion Rider.
