China’s Long March 2D launches Kuafu-1 solar observatory, rocket sheds tiles

A Chinese Long March 2D rocket launched the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory, nicknamed Kuafu-1, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Inner Mongolia on Oct. 8, 2022. [Full Story](https://www.space.com/china-launches-advanced-space-based-solar-observatory)

The 1,960-pound (888 kilograms) Kuafu-1 probe will use three instruments to study the sun's magnetic field, solar flares, coronal mass ejections (CMEs), and more.
