The government is expected to table the Political Funding Bill during this parliamentary sitting. The proposed legislation seeks to regulate public and private funding of political parties, to make the process of financing politics more transparent and accountable. While a step in the right direction, civil society has however called for allocations from public funds to be included in the Bill. Melisa Idris speaks to political scientist Professor Wong Chin Huat, Deputy Head of Strategy for the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Asia (SDSN-Asia) at Sunway University, about public funding included in the Political Financing Bill.
