On 20 September, in the year 1857, the Mughal rule was completely over. The last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II surrendered. With this, Delhi was captured by the British. Bahadur Shah Zafar and his 3 sons took refuge in Humayun's tomb, from where they were captured by the British and taken as prisoners to the Red Fort where they ruled.
