Taliban drug lord Bashar Noorzai was released in exchange of an American hostage Mark Frerichs kept in Taliban prison since 2020. Bashar Noorzai was arrested for heroin smuggling. While the deal of exchange was non-negotiable, the Taliban had released a video of Mark Frerichs pleading for help.
