Reliance Jio added 2.94 million mobile phone users in July, taking its subscription base to 415.9 million subscribers, a continuing indication that its prolonged clean-up of low value users is over, according to the latest subscriber data collated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).

By comparison, Bharti Airtel added a modest 0.51 million wireless subscribers, taking its total user base to 363.48 million, while Vodafone Idea's customer losses continued. The cash-strapped telco lost 1.54 million mobile customers in July, shrinking its user base further to 255.1 million, reflecting its continuing struggles in its 4G operations.
Jio and Airtel further widened their respective market shares to 36.23% (36%) and 31.66%(31.63%) over the previous month, while Vodafone-Idea's share narrowed to 22.22% (22.37%).Visitor Location Register, a key metric reflecting the number of active users on a mobile network, indicated that Bharti Airtel has 97.99% of its users active on the network, 91.88% for Jio and 85.03% for Vi.
The data collated by the regulator also showed that India's mobile user base rose marginally by 0.06% to 1.148 billion at the end of July, from 1.147 billion the month before.

TRAI data showed that the overall wireless tele-density decreased marginally to 83.25% in July, from 83.27% in June.
