Players on both sides looked on with concern and Cádiz goalkeeper Conan Ledesma could be seen running across the pitch with a defibrillator towards the incident.

Ledesma gave the fans a thumbs up behind the goal, but the lack of a positive response from the fans was confirmation that there was still a major problem and an eerie silence descended on Cádiz's Nuevo Mirandilla stadium before the two teams they will eventually withdraw.

Cádiz substitute José Mari could then be seen running down the touchline with a stretcher, before heading with a Red Cross worker towards the patient.

The game was suspended for an hour and the president of Cádiz, Manuel Vizcaíno, told Spanish radio that the fan had been successfully revived and taken to hospital.

When the game restarted, Barcelona built on their 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski, who had taken just nine minutes to score their ninth goal of the season in all competitions.

With Bayern Munich facing on Tuesday, Xavi left the Pole on the bench alongside Pedri and Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona worked without them in the first half.

The closest they came to breaking the tie before the break was when the standout Gavi slid the ball to Raphinha and his shot bounced off the post.

Cádiz has not scored all season and was close to breaking the duck when Fede San Emeterio finished off from inside the penalty area. Barcelona's goal came shortly after.

Xavi was preparing to bring in the three super-substitutes for him when the deadlock was broken.

Gavi broke into Raphinha's pass and his cross barreled into Frenkie de Jong, who scored.

In minute 56 Lewandowski entered and before 66 he had already scored. The goal was from two meters but showed all the desire of a player determined to score 50 goals again this season. He sprinted for the score after Raphinha crossed from a Héctor Bellerin cross. The former Arsenal player playing his role in his debut goal.

Xavi had bet with an understrength starting IX but always knowing Lewandowski wouldn't need much to hit if need be.

Gerard Piqué started the match in the center of Barcelona's defense while Jules Kounde also rested.

Marcos Alonso was also used as a late substitute. The former Chelsea defender made his debut coming on with 12 minutes remaining. Ansu Fati also had minutes and scored the third in the resumption of the game. Lewandowski
