Ethereum Blockchain Merge Officially Underway

The Bellatrix upgrade on the Ethereum network was activated on Tuesday. This upgrade is the network’s final “hard fork” before the Merge was activated on Tuesday, marking the beginning of Ethereum’s transition from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. The merge is intended to move Ethereum away from the process known as mining, which ensures that transactions on the blockchain are legitimate and accurate. The merger is expected to reduce the network’s energy use by more than 99.95%.
