Amid the scuffle between the Kerala government and state Governor Arif Mohammad Khan over the University Amendment Bill, the Kerala Governor on August 25 in Thiruvananthapuram, stressed the importance of the Governor’s duty to see that the bill does not contravene with the spirit of Constitution before passing it.

“Constitution gives power to pass a bill, it has to pass some other places also to become a law. They can pass any bill they want to but Governor scrutinizes a bill, to see it doesn't contravene with spirit of Constitution,” the Kerala Governor said.
