Humanoid Robot Ameca Seen Winking, Pursing its Lips, Scrunching its Nose and Grimacing in a Mirror

The Ameca humanoid robot can be seen winking, pursing his lips, frowning, and smiling in a mirror after receiving an upgrade to his facial expression capabilities.

The android received 12 new facial actuators, basically a component of a machine that controls movements, and the robot showed off its capabilities in front of a mirror in a video posted on YouTube.

Ameca, which is a product of UK-based Engineered Arts and billed as the "world's most advanced" humanoid robot, was previously seen grabbing a researcher's hand in a video because it had entered his "personal space".

The robot resembles the machines in Will Smith I's hit Robot, and has also been seen interacting with humans at various tech conferences.

"Designed specifically as a platform for the development of future robotic technologies, Ameca is the perfect humanoid robotic platform for human-robot interaction," writes Engineered Arts on its website.

'We focus on bringing you innovative technologies that are reliable, modular, upgradeable and easy to develop.'

Ameca's latest update prompted a variety of comments from YouTubers, including several who called it "mind-blowing" or "incredible" work.

'Compared to the Sophia robot, my money would definitely be on Ameca. She is far ahead of Sophia and is developing many times faster. Compared to 3 years ago, Sophia has only made minor progress,” one user writes.

Ameca's expressions are also much more realistic. Combine Ameca with the mobility abilities of Boston Robotics and Ameca will be walking, moving and talking like a human in no time (I'm guessing by 2024).
