Priscilla Presley Reveals the ‘Elvis’ Moments That Were Hardest for Her
  • 2 years ago
Priscilla Presley is honoring her late husband, Elvis Presley, 45 years after The King died. Priscilla, who was married to Elvis from 1967–1973, spoke with Today to celebrate the musical icon and open up about the experience of watching him portrayed onscreen by Austin Butler in Elvis. While Priscilla has been extremely supportive of the Baz Luhrmann biopic and is practically its biggest fan — she raved about how it brought her to tears — she told Today some parts of the film were especially difficult for her to watch. She specifically pointed to Elvis’ experiences with his manager, who is portrayed in the film by Tom Hanks.“He wanted to do movies, serious movies, and Colonel Parker probably should have stayed a publicist,” Priscilla said. “He didn’t take Elvis where he wanted to be, and that was hard because I lived it.”She continued, “I lived the arguments that they had, I lived Elvis trying to explain he didn’t want to do the movies with all the girls and the beaches and everything, that he really wanted to do serious things,” she continued. “So living that, with him, and watching the movie, it brought back a lot of memories.”Priscilla also admitted she wasn’t immediately sold on Luhrmann’s film. She told Today that before the director started his project, he met with her at home for four hours. When she finally saw Elvis in a private screening with Elvis’ friend Jerry Schilling they were both stunned into silence.“At the end we went, ‘Wow, this is Elvis,'” she told Today. Elvis first premiered in theaters in June, but has not landed on HBO Max within 45 days of its theatrical release like previous Warner Bros. releases. Instead, the movie is now available to rent on digital, but will land on the streamer eventually. Decider’s Anna Menta reported earlier this month that films will come to HBO Max now on a “case by case basis” instead of a blanket 45-day window.
