Why the Tricolour is hoisted at Red Fort on I-Day?

On 15 August 1947. The flag hoisting was done at today's Vijay Chowk, which was Princess Park then. After the public celebration of 15 August, Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the tricolor from the Red Fort on 16 August. Since then, on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of the country hoists the flag at the Red Fort itself. After the hoisting of the flag, the tradition of the national anthem started in 1950.
