This is the magical moment a young deaf girl was able to talk to a Disney princess for the first time by using sign language. Footage shows the moment 11-year-old Zoe was able to converse in ASL with Anna from Frozen. Zoe was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and adopted by Jeanette Tapley, 36, a podcaster and author, in 2015. Jeanette said: "Every part of the adoption process was so gruelling, but welcoming a girl into the family has been been a dream." "It's been so fun to have dolls and ribbons around the house instead of sweaty shoes from my two boys," she continued Jeanette has been a big fan of Disney since childhood and goes to the park twice a year. Nevertheless, this is the first time she has ever seen an employee have a conversation in ASL. "Our best friend's daughter is a huge fan of Anna and Elsa, so we went over to meet them, Zoe was next in line to meet her so she just walks up and signs" Usually Zoe will just sign to people and Jeanette and her husband Jesse will act as her voice, translating what she says. On this occasion it wasn't needed, as, unexpectedly, Anna was able to sign back, having a direct conversation with the girl in ASL. Anna introduced herself and asked Zoe if it was her first time in Disney, to which Zoe responded that it wasn't. Zoe also asked about Olaf, a snowman in the Frozen franchise. Jeanette added: "It's the first time ever that a costumed character has been able to have a full conversation with Zoe. "It would be so inviting if more places trained their employees in at least basic ASL, it would help hearing impaired people feel seen. The moment was very significant for everyone involved, it was something that made Zoe feel truly seen. "It felt surreal, It was just so so special, I think Zoe just felt very recognised and special, she just turned around to us and signed 'wow'",Jeanette said.
