Citizen scientists are being called on to contribute to an annual platypus count next month, with surveys being conducted across the ACT to better gauge the health of waterways and the creatures inhabiting them.

Platypus numbers across Australia are thought to be in decline, with a push to have the beloved natives added to the threatened species list.
